Donate here
As a charity, Woodlands relies heavily on donations and fundraising and the Friends of Woodlands – through the ever-popular Charity Shop – contribute greatly to the ongoing improvement of Woodlands’ facilities.
What we do with the waste
Each week we receive tonnes of donations, only one third of which are suitable to be sold within the shops.
So what happens to the rest?
Each week we send 750kg (3/4 of a tonne) of rags (unsaleable clothes, shoes, handbags and soft toys) to be recycled via a registered merchant.
Books, coathangers, electrical items, paper, cardboard, DVDs, CDs, videos and some plastics and metals which we are unable to sell are taken by another merchant. Although they do not pay us for the items they take, they do collect and recycle them all.
The remaining waste is put into our green bins for collection by the local council. We are working hard to keep this proportion of our waste to a minimum, and are currently sourcing additional recycling collectors for the remaining waste.
