This month, we have a book review by one of our Guests, Gillian Wade
Shrinking the Monster by Jo Johnson. Published by the Multiple Sclerosis Society 2009
"Shrinking your MS Monster is very much an alternative approach to the usual self-help approach to coping with MS.
Each page is illustrated with a different monster, depicting the changeable and mutating nature of the disease.
The book is fun and demands that, although the disease is serious, we can handle it by looking at it as a separate, annoying object to be tamed and carefully managed. The final pages include plans and notes for our personal vendetta on "the beast". Hopefully, at the end of the book we will have gathered our ammunition, beginning to feel empowered in our own personal management of our individual disease as we perceive it.
The book manages to get across the idea that MS is not a part of us, but something separate, which can help us to feel more in charge of the condition."
